dPhoto is a utility for digicam photos (but not only) to rename, get info, dispatch, change the dates, and other features.

Usually, the pictures name is like "DSCN1985.JPG". Its good, because the number is unique, but not explicit!

According to me, one of the best way to rename pictures is to add first a category (single or two characters), to keep the number and add an explicit name.

For example with your beautiful sunset picture: “Ls-2113-Acapulco.JPG” where “L” is the category for Landscape and “s” a landscape subcategory: “sunset”.

In this way, your pictures are automatically sorting and you can recover the old names in few seconds.
But, it’s very easy to order and structure the name in a different way as you please.
