Countdown 2.0

Sometimes you just gotta wait for something to happen. You keep waiting and waiting. And finally you realize that you are to late. The train left, your class started, or your cake is now a burnt, inedible biscuit. With Countdown, youll never have to eat a crunchy cake again! Countdown is a simple, efficient timer that puts the countdown in a very accessible place: in your status bar. You can easily tell at a glance how much time is left. Best of all, its free!

Countdown is a one-trick pony, but it does it well. All it does is keep track of the time and alert you when the timer reaches zero. You can enter an end-date into the topmost field (examples: "3 pm", "12:01 am tomorrow") or enter how many hours, minutes, and seconds you need in the bottom fields. After youve done the simple setup, simply hit the "Start Countdown" button. Countdown updates a status bar item as it counts down. When it reaches zero, it shows a message and plays a sound to alert you. Its as simple as it is handy.
You can also customize Countdown. Its preferences system lets you choose what sound to play, whether the main window shows at launch, whether or not to repeat the sound, and finally, how often to repeat the sound. You can also set Countdown to display a custom message to remind you that your cookies are burning.

Altering time
In addition to putting the timer in the status bar so that you can find it easily, Countdown also gives you ready access to pausing the timer quickly from the menu bar. Clicking on the time shows a menu that allows you to pause the time, open the main Countdown window again, or conveniently quit the application.
Countdown also now contains a presets window that lets you define custom timers. Regularly brew tea or boil spaghetti? Countdown keeps track of commonly used presets so that you can select it quickly from the main menu.

Growl aware
Growl provides applications with a notification system that makes it easy to send feedback to the user. It also makes it look good. Countdown makes use of Growl by providing an option to display the countdown message in a Growl notification. Not to worry if you dont have Growl, Countdown still works just as it did without it, but Growl definitely makes it look better.
