tarlimit 1.6.0 Ranking & Summary
tarlimit 1.6.0 description
tarlimit is a simple command line utility designed to help individuals create backups of their data onto fixed media. If the data being archived is larger than the selected media, the data must be split up and placed on several seperate disks (or what have you).
tarlimit is the solution to this problem, which would otherwise be solved manually.
tarlimit will take a directory and archive it, starting a new archive whenever it nears the user specified size limit.
Main features:
- User Specified Size Limit
- tarlimit will create tar archives that do not exceed a user specified size limit. The size can be specified in megabytes or gigabytes.
- Compression Methods
- tarlimit can create tar archives that are compressed with bzip, gzip, or without compression (.tar, .tar.bz2, .tar.gz).
- Limit Space Capability
- tarlimit can pause after each archive is finished so the user can move the archive and free up more space, if the user desires.
Enhancements
- "-o" will optimize the packing of the archives. Files will be placed in the first archive with space available.
- implemented a 1M "buffer" on the archive size to help prevent bug #1777055
