ScreenLock 1.0

Back in MacOS 8 and 9, Apple had a very useful control panel that protected your mobile Mac from unwanted accesses. For some reasons, Apple did not include this very useful functionality into MacOS X until Panther. If youre still using Jaguar and are concerned about your private data while youre away from your machine, have a look at ScreenLock.

ScreenLock works simple: As soon as your Mac goes to sleep (automatically or when you put it to sleep manually), ScreenLock covers your displays and shows a dialog asking to enter your password, thus preventing access by unauthorized people. Of course the protection can also enabled manually with a hotkey combination.

Inconspicuous
ScreenLock is normally invisible, sitting in the background waiting for the Mac to go to sleep or the hotkey being pressed - and does not consume any processor time. Once the system goes to sleep, the following dialog is shown - until the user enters the correct password.

ScreenLock is shareware and costs $5.

IMPORTANT: ScreenLock conflicts with the password protection of the MacOS screen saver, therefore ScreenLock will change the screen savers preferences to not longer ask for a password when activated.
If you decide not to use ScreenLock, make sure that you re-enable the password check in your system preferences.
