A-OK! The Wings of Mercury 3.8 description
A-OK! The Wings of Mercury is a realistic simulation of the Mercury spacecraft. It features 3D graphics, fully functional control panels, networked simulations, and a complete manual.
Not a game, A-OK! WoM is so realistic, you will use the actual checklists used by the astronauts. Orbital and Sub-Orbital missions can be simulated. A Mission Control Center simulator and special A-OK! Tools are available to registered users. Mac OS X only.
Here are some key features of "A OK The Wings of Mercury":
· Real-time Trajectory Real-time trajectory modeling accurately simulates the ascent, orbital and reentry dynamics of the spacecraft. Atmospheric drag, thrust and mass are just three of the many variables used in the sophisticated integration techniques used.
· Real Time 3D Graphics REALbasics Rb3D engine allows us to create accurate, real-time 3D graphics that simulate the cockpit and window view. An external view of the spacecraft is also available. All of the real-time 3d is based on OpenGL, the growing standard for real-time graphics.
· Historically and technically accurate controls and documentation Over 120 fully-operational switches, gauges and indicators that must be operated using the actual checklists and flight plans used by the Mercury astronauts. Over a decade of research has gone into ensuring this level of accuracy. Were on tap for some of NASAs public affairs officers as experts on Project Mercury.
· Booster Editor You can modify booster mass, thrust and burn time which affects the spacecrafts trajectory and orbit.
· Mission Profile Editor A mission profile includes system failures. Astronaut psychological data, spacecraft and booster parameters and other data that can be saved so you can rerun a particular mission again and again or share a particularly challenging mission with a friend or classmate. System failures can be automatically generated based on difficulty level or can be fine-tuned to the second!
· Weather Cloud cover and wind conditions can be varied at both the launch and landing sites using a simple drop down menu.
· Mission Report At the end of a simulation, A-OK! can produce a detailed HTML-based report on your mission. All major events, system performance, astronaut tasks and trajectory data are covered. The data can be in either English or Metric system and A-OK! can automatically open up your default web browser when the report is ready.Mercury Atlas Mission Report Aborted Mercury Redstone Mission Report
· Auto CapCom In single user mode, you can communicate with ground stations via large vocabulary communications Auto CapCom. In addition to supplying information on your current status, Auto CapCom can warn you of potentially dangerous situations. Just like the real thing, you can only receive when you are over a ground stations and youll get static as you slip in and slip out of range. UHF and HF radios are simulated with the traits of both modeled: clearer signal the chief advantage of the former and longer range the advantage of the latter.
· Astronaut Roster Editor Astronauts are editable and are biologically and psychologically simulated so that factors like weight, flight experience, etc., affect consumable usage and heat generation. Astronauts with above average flight experience will not have as large of a physiological reaction to the more stressful segments of a mission as less experience ones. Larger astronauts will consume more oxygen and produce more heat than smaller ones.
· Mission Data Recorder All parameters can be recorded for later analysis, including trajectory, environmental system, attitude control system, electrical system and Astronaut physiological data. This data is saved in a standard comma-delimited text file that you can export to an external analysis tool like Microsoft Excel. Students can bring home the mission data and create a detail analysis on a particular aspect of the mission as homework or extra credit.
· Strip Chart Graph Tool The Strip Chart allows you create simples charts from recorded data without external tools. All charts are scalable. The tool is available throughout the mission, so you can get a quick look at data trends anytime during the mission.
· Full Simulation Control The simulation can be started from countdown, ignition, orbit, reentry or final descent. It can be paused, sped up, saved and restored.
· Metric/English All data in A-OK! WoM can be viewed in either the English or Metric system. This can be set to effect the entire simulation and individual functions can override the global settings. Note: the spacecraft gauges, in keeping with historical accuracy only displays English units.
· A-OK! Mission Control Center This is a separate application that networks to the main simulation providing a full simulation of the Mercury Mission Control Center as well as the spacecraft. With this application, teachers can utilize one to ten additional computers to directly engage many students in the simulation. Space flight enthusiasts can network with other enthusiasts to run large-scale simulations over the web.
Limitations:
· Suborbital missions only, Networked sim, Extra tools disabled.
Whats New in This Release:
· External view camera rotates properly in the vertical axis.
