iFlash 2.8.1
iFlash 2.8.1 Ranking & Summary
iFlash 2.8.1 description
iFlash is a virtual flash card program which will help you study almost anything. You can enter in the front and back of cards, and have iFlash play them back to you.
iFlash includes many great features to help you study. You can record audio directly into any flash-card (great for foreign languages), as well as attach images. Other features include an unlimited amount of card sides per deck, advanced importing and exporting, iPod support, quick-searching, and a beautiful interface that is strikingly similar to other iApplications (like iTunes and iPhoto).
Print out paper flash-cards
iFlash includes support for printing out flash cards. To access this feature, open the card deck you would like to print, click the File menu and select Print. There are 2 styles of card printing: Vertical style prints both the front and back of your cards onto one side of the paper. For best results, fold the paper in half along the solid line, use glue to merge the paper together, then cut along the dashed line.Two-Sided Cards prints using both sides of the paper.
When you first click Print, iFlash will print all the front sides of your cards. Once completed take the printed stack (do not change the order of how the pages were printed; iFlash takes this into account) and place it back into your printer such that the back sides can be printed. Neither style supports printers that have dual-side printing support.
Use images and audio in your cards
You can drag an image file onto any card, and see it during the card show. iFlash will store audio files and images on a "side" of a card. For example, you can have an image/audio clip on the front side of a card and no multimedia on the back side. Images will show up in their own window during the show.
To record audio, first open the Inspector by clicking the blue "Inspect" buton. Then, simply click the Record button (shown below) in the Inspector. This will record audio from the default input on your Macintosh. If you click on the Audio tab, you can also playback the audio, delete it, and import an external audio file.
If you are unsure what your audio input is set to, open System Preferences (Apple Menu -> System Preferences...), select Sound, then click the "Input" tab. On most Macs the built-in microphone is usually set as the default recording device.
Three Memorization Systems
iFlash has three separate systems of memorization built-in, Simple Memorization, Score Memorization, and Interval Memorization. You can switch between these in the Deck Preferences.
Simple Memorization (good for cramming; on by default in new decks) gives each card two states, either memorized or un-memorized. When a card is "Known" during the card show by clicking the "Known" button, iFlash will mark the card as memorized and it will not be shown again. When simple memorization is enabled, the editor window will show checkboxes next to every card. If the card has a check mark next to it, then it has been memorized.
Score Memorization (good for short-term studying) assigns each card a numerical score. When a card is "Known" during the card show, the cards score gets raised. If the card isnt known during the show, the cards score is lowered. When a cards score reaches the threshold, it is memorized and will not be shown again. All of the thresholds for Score memorization can be customized in the Deck Preferences.
Interval Memorization (good for long-term studying) is based off the Score method above. However, interval studying links each cards score to a number of days. This number of days represents how long a delay there is before you see that card again while studying. When Interval is enabled, cards can never be "memorized" like the above methods.
The iFlash Deck Library
iFlash includes an integrated Deck Library to make downloading, as well as sharing your own card decks, incredibly easy. To access the deck library, simply click the iFlash menu and then iFlash Deck Library. When you first use the library, you will be presented with a login dialog box.
In order to take full advantage of what the library has to offer, you will have to login with your Loopware.com username and password. If you dont have a Loopware.com account, simply click on the Register button to create one for free! Once youve logged in, you may begin immediately download others card decks. Sharing your own card decks is highly encouraged and very easy to do; simply click the Upload button and iFlash will guide you through the process. You can always replace or delete any decks you have uploaded.
Unlimited Card Sides
iFlash includes support for unlimited card sides in each deck. To add a card side, click on the "Deck Prefs", select the "Sides" tab, type in a new name for the side, and click the "+" button. iFlash will then create a new card side for all your cards. You can enable/disable each card side in the card show by checking or un-checking the box next to its name.
To change what order the card sides are shown during the card show, simply drag and drop however you like in the right table view. You can also show any amount of card sides in the editor. To toggle card sides in the editor, click on the "View" menu, highlight "Table Columns...", and choose what you want to be shown in the editor.
iPod Exporting (study on the go!)
To export your card decks to your iPod, click File -> Export and then select Export to iPod. If your iPod is plugged in, simply click "Export" and iFlash will do all the work! You can then access your decks on your iPod by browsing into the iFlash folder (Notes feature) or selecting the deck name (Contacts feature). Because Apple has placed a developer limit on the iPod, and new applications cannot be developed for it, there is no way that studying with your iPod can be as feature-rich as studying directly with iFlash.
Advanced Text File Importing
iFlash includes an advanced text importing feature, accessible from the File -> Import menu item. You can import any text file, and define your own parameters for separating cards, card sides, and line breaks.
iFlash includes 3 preset formats; the 2-Sided Card, Multi-Sided, and Multi-Side With Line Breaks formats. Each format includes an accompanying example of the format. You can define your own separators by selecting the Custom format. When you change any of the separators, click "Re-parse Text File" to see the changes.
System requirements:
- PowerPC G4, G5 or Intel-powered Mac.
Version restrictions:
- 15 days trial period.
Enhancements
- Fixed bug where iFlash would sometimes not export more than a few decks to the iPhone. If this is happening for you, click the "Deck Prefs" button, select the "Advanced" tab, then click the new "Reset Deck Unique ID" button. Do this for each deck thats affected.
- Quotes are now respected when importing CSV files.
- Fixed bug where exporting decks with a ":" or "/" in their name would crash iFlash.
