ProteinGlimpse is a free widget for visualizing macromolecules retrieved from the Protein Data Bank.
ProteinGlimpse is powered by Jmol, a free, open source molecule viewer created for students, educators, and researchers in chemistry and biochemistry. It was inspired by the FirstGlance in Jmol project.
ProteinGlimpse widget has been developed by Jaime Fernández Vera as a work of his master in bioinformatics project. It was impired by the FirstGlance in Jmol project (http://molvis.sdsc.edu/fgij/index.htm)
If you are not conversant with macromolecules but you would like to have a glimpse of them, here you have some examples:
- The insulin hormone: 1APH
- The DNA double helix (B form): 1BNA
- The Potassium channel: 1BL8 (a membrane protein)
- The Transfer RNA (Phe): 4TNA
- The HIV protease with inhibitor: 4PHV
- Inosine Monophosphate Dehydrogenase in complex with Mycophenolic Acid: 1JR1
