Currency Assistant 3.1

Currency Assistant 3.1 is a useful tool which lets you convert between 175 world currencies and automatically updates exchange rates over the Internet.

With Currency Assistant you can easily create multiple converters, import and convert series of amounts, calculate and convert the result of expressions, and quickly log, save, export, and print your conversions.

Major Features:

1. Multiple converters for maximum flexibility
   • Currency Assistant lets you create and use as many conversion windows as you need. Each of them can contain up to 24 currencies and has its own tape in a drawer to log conversion results.
   • In addition to that, the Currencies window lets you sort, search, and quickly batch edit currencies.
2. Customizable Add Currency and Switch Currency menus
   • The Add Currency and Switch Currency menus let you instantly access frequently used currencies.
   • Converters are very easy to set up or edit, have an Action pop-up menu to quickly accomplish recurrent tasks and a Rate pop-up menu to view and copy exchange rates, and can be closed when you don't need them so that they aren't in your way.
   • Currency Assistant allows you to fully customize these menus: you can choose which currencies must be displayed, add separators, arrange items manually or automatically group currencies, and sort them by name, country, or ISO code.
3. Automatic rates update
   • Currency Assistant uses the rates published by the European Central Bank, the Bank of Canada, the International Monetary Fund, and the Bank of Italy to automatically update exchange rates over the Internet.
   • Rates can be updated by choosing the Update Rates command from the File menu or from the Action pop-up menu, by clicking the Update Rates button in the Currencies window toolbar or automatically at startup.
   • When exchange rates are updated, Currency Assistant carefully logs results, so that you can easily find out whether any rates could not be updated and why. Logs can be filtered, copied, and saved to a RTF file.
4. Quick conversions
   • Currency Assistant speeds up calculating conversions. You can copy multiple amounts from Excel or another application and paste them to the desired input display: Currency Assistant will automatically convert all the pasted amounts and log results in the tape.
   • Equivalently, you can quickly import plain text files, RTF files, Word documents, web archives, HTML files, and text clippings containing series of amounts and automatically convert the enclosed values.
   • Finally, if you need to convert the result of a calculation, you can simply select a display, type your expression, and press Return: Currency Assistant will calculate the expression for you and convert its result
5. Currency management made simple
   • The fully revised Currencies window lists 175 currencies (all major circulating currencies plus the 16 Eurozone legacy currencies) and lets you easily perform all currency management tasks.
   • You can edit or restore currencies, set your base currency, automatically update exchange rates over the Internet, and customize the Add Currency and Switch Currency menus.
6. Working with results: copying, saving, and printing conversions
   • Currency Assistant lets you easily export conversion results to other applications.
   • You can copy amounts from displays or from the tape. You can export conversions by dragging them from the tape to a document in another application. You can save the tape to a RTF file or plain text file. When dragging or saving conversions you can choose between five different formats (standard, single line, and three table formats).
   • In addition to that, using Copy Special commands, you can copy results including ISO code, currency name, or symbol and quickly copy frequently used text snippets containing conversion results, ISO codes, currency names and symbols.
   • Finally, Currency Assistant lets you print the tape and allows you to highlight specific currencies in red, green, or blue in printouts.

Enhancements:

• The Rate indicator and the Rate pop-up menu can now show either currency names or ISO codes. To choose the desired display option, use the "Rate indicator uses" and "Rate pop-up menu uses" buttons in the General pane of the Preferences window.
• You can now display the names of the currencies in a converter by placing the mouse pointer over its Switch Currency pop-up menus. To disable tooltips, deselect the "Show currency tooltips in converters" checkbox in the General pane of the Preferences window.
• Separators in converters can now be darkened to better distinguish them. To make separators darker, drag the "Darken separators" slider in the General pane of the Preferences window.
• The possibility to quickly switch to the next currency listed in the Switch Currency menu by pressing Option-Tab has been re-introduced. In addition to that, you can now also switch to the previous currency in the menu by pressing Shift-Option-Tab.
• The new Turkmen manat (TMT) has been introduced. The new manat and the old manat (TMM) will circulate together until December 31, 2009 with 1 TMT = 5,000 TMM.
• Copy Special commands can now include currency names.
• The automatic update of exchange rates has been modified so that Currency Assistant doesn't hang anymore for several seconds if you start updating rates while your computer establishes the connection to the Internet.
• The New Converter and Open Converter commands have been added to the Currency Assistant menu in the Dock.
• Check for updates has been fully revised and lets you now check for updates both manually and automatically. To set Currency Assistant to check for updates automatically or schedule how often you want it to check, open the Software Update pane of the Preferences window.
• A bug that prevented items from being manually rearranged in the Add Currency, Switch Currency and Copy Special menus on Mac OS X 10.5 has been fixed.
• A bug that could cause missing or duplicate items in the Add Currency and Switch Currency menus under particular circumstances on Mac OS X 10.5 has been fixed.
• Some other minor bugs have been fixed and some other minor improvements have been introduced.
